JewishCare NSW

90 years of caring

For 90 years we’ve been asking “Do you want to talk?” “Can I get you something?”

We really really care

Care and worrying about people comes naturally to us. It’s been passed down through generations, and it’s embedded in who we are.

Sure, some people may think we care too much, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. At JewishCare, that care has never stopped and never will. It’s what we’ve been doing for the last 90 years and it’s what we will continue to do for the next 90.

A community ready to care

JewishCare was started out of necessity 90 years ago to help settle new Jewish immigrants.

In the years following World War II, that need was urgent and profound. While the Joint Distribution Committee worked in Europe to fund passages and get Holocaust survivors onto ships bound for Australia, the Australian Jewish Welfare Society, JewishCare’s founding organisation, was waiting at the dock in Sydney, ready to receive them with open arms and help to rebuild their lives.

Over the last 90 years, the role we play in the community has evolved, but the thing that will never change is how much we care and worry.

Today, JewishCare is one of the community’s largest service providers, offering a comprehensive “whole of life” range of programs and services.

And for the next 90 years, we will still be asking

Are you doing OK?
